Whenever a user types a search query like a mathematical expression, it opens a web view to show the results using Bing. But some users are reporting an error where this web view is not appearing, and it seems to be broken. The user has to click on Open in Browser link. Cortana Web Preview not working
The following methods have proven to be effective if your Cortana Web Preview pane is not displaying any results on Windows 10: Here is the default preview of Web as it should be.
1] Restart the Cortana Task
The Cortana task or process is visible to anyone in the Task Manager.
Open the Windows Task Manager.Under the tab of Processes, look out for the entry of Cortana and right click on it.Select End Task.
Open Cortana again to check if that fixes Cortana Web View not working issue. This method is important because sometimes the running process encounters an error and breaks a particular component of the whole service. In this scenario, it will be highly useful.
2] Reset Cortana using Windows 10 Settings App
Open the Windows 10 Settings App and navigate to Apps > Apps & Features. On the right side panel, find the entry labeled as Cortana. Select it and then select Advanced options. First, under the section of Terminate, select the button called Terminate. And, below the section of Reset, click on the button named as Reset.
3] Re-register and reinstall the Microsoft Cortana app
Open the PowerShell command line with administrator level rights, and execute the following commands in the given sequence:
Set-ExecutionPolicy UnrestrictedGet-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
It will re-register as well as reinstall all the preinstalled applications that come out of the box with Windows 10.
4] Use Windows Store App Troubleshooter
Open the Windows 10 Settings App and navigate to Update & Security > Troubleshoot. On the right side panel, you will find various troubleshooters. Locate Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter, and run it. Follow the on-screen instructions, and it will fix common problems around the app. Once complete launch the app, and check if the issue exists.
5] Change Search filter lever
This may be unlikely, but if the search setting filter is strict, the web view will not work because it may include suitable content. Go to Settings > Search and change filter level. These should helep get Cortana’s Web Preview working on your computer once again.
